The roof guys came and began our roof this weekend, the first phase in what I like to refer to as Project Normal Livin'. Project Normal Livin' means the end of such things as showering outside in the porch closet and running inside when the neighbor isn't looking, having the baby hand us pieces of old cement from the walls saying "da! da! da!" and sleeping in the living room under the stairs. It means getting a beautiful bathroom, having a kitchen with a pantry, building a back deck for barbecues and having a bedroom on the third floor with a view of the lake one day. A series of dreams scribbled on paper and maybe about to become a reality, perhaps if we're patient a little bit longer. The roof guys are great. They work for a company during the week and have their own business venture on the weekends. They didn't just walk off the street but are people we met because they know our neighbor and Seb also knows the guy's daughter because she worked for his old company. We feel like they won't leave us stranded or do a shoddy job. They seem to be very serious workers and let's face it the price is right!
Of course today it's raining like mad and I do mean like mad. The roof is merely tarped on one side but so far it isn't leaking anywhere except a teensy bit on the sides. It used to leak a whole lot more than that with rain spilling all over the kitchen in various pitter-patters and us shoving pots and pans under it all. What a mess it all used to be. Life will be so much better, or maybe I should say drier now.
Tell me please who does a roof in April anyway? Well, somebody has to do roof work in April and I suppose those somebodies have to be us. Let's just hope that tarp holds out!

Hurah for you roof!
sadly we still don't have a door...maybe tomorrow.
Yeah for a new roof! O to dream, isn't it fun! Feel lucky you haven't had endure a tarp over part of your house for over a year! That's what I have dealt with, but of course the drips weren't half as bad. Talk about annoying especially with all of the wind and rain around at times.
Well the rainy days make up for all the days which you show those blue skies. Oh how lovely! I think I'd be making a walk or trek down into Yvoire a lot!
wow, they are efficient!! looking good so far!!
Nobody does "grands travaux" like the French! Good luck with the project!
remember to put a flag on top when it is completled...a tradition in the south of France!
