We're off to Normandy for a family event, French style that is. What does this mean? This means a minimum of 30 people around a table for several hours over a two day stretch gorging on multiple courses. There is a lot of food consumed at these things. It would blow your mind.
I'm sure Little S will like seeing all the tractors and cows. And he'll be adored by the aunts and grandparents and great grandparents. And he probably won't want to come home to the boring lake house...
but mommy will.

say hello to grampa for us all. i'm just reading H. E. Bates' A Fair Wind for France which is that era, about downed flyboys behind the lines in rural france and walking out.
vive la france and all the farmers too. i hope you will tell us all about the party when you get back.
(i'm a long time lurker over at the house blog and just discovered this one, how do you do?)
Yanno, it sounds like fun to me. I'd like Grandpa too. And who wrote the scathing email and why? You've got the basis for a great book background someday. How many Americans get dropped into such a different culture so intimately? Just think of it as research and have fun. Then describe it for us!
I hope to go visit a French family in Brittany this summer, the daughter comes to stay with us. But my French isn't good enough to know what is going on.
I married a Swede so I know what it's like being part of a different culture.
where in normandy are you headed to? it isn't always cold and rainy, up until yesterday we had a solid month of sunshine and warm weather :-) i hope it changes back to that for your trip!
Karina I think you're in Caen which is our second base camp in France (ie. chez les beaux parents) Ah alas the Normans are always defending the rainy skies but I have never been there when it's been sunny! Okay either they're lying about us just missing the sunshine or else my timing is really, really off. Anyway, I have to admit that Caen is a great town and I absolutely adore the centre ville (even in the rain...).
somehow I had a feeling you might have come around here, i am in Caen. but too bad it rained! the last week or 10 days we've had grey weather but i swear it was beautiful for a month before this!! i just want it to come back, big tease getting you all ready for summer then taking it away! ;-)
