Home sweet home...Mexico

We arrived back at The Holiday Inn Saturday night in a taxi full of suitcases (ours) and all Seb and I could do was groan when we saw the entrance. Little S squealed with delight "hotel! hotel!" He loves it at the hotel because all the staff treats him like royalty. He's noisier, stinkier and dirtier than the cat but somehow more welcome. I don't get it.

Our furniture apparently arrived Friday in Veracruz but is being held up in customs because none of the paperwork was done by Seb's company. Ironically the company had sent us an e-mail Thursday telling us that we'd better do the necessary paperwork or else pay up to 5,ooo dollars in fines. We had no idea what paperwork they were talking about and we called the moving company. Seb found the e-mail rude and cold--why not just call him? It had a definite "ohhh you're gonna get in trouble" tone. But it turns out that once again Seb's company is completely responsible for the paperwork and once again they have been childish and moronic about a procedure when it was actually something they should have handled. The same thing has happened with our visas, our house, plane tickets--you name it. We keep getting stuck with the bill or the responsibility and we have to struggle to get it fixed. But the good news is that we may soon be reunited with our stuff and we can move in to our house!

The sushi baby is doing fine and moving so much I have the feeling she may punch her way out one morning. I'm nearly 34 weeks and as big as a house. I'm carrying all out front and from behind I look trim and normal. With little S everything was big, arms, legs, butt. The sushi is more polite about that. I'm still big but it somehow looks more girly. I will post pictures when I get the webcam is working. It's got a mind of it's own. My poor digital camera is nearly dead and I have pretty much stopped using it. I used my parent's camera when I was in Florida this summer and kept saying I'd find something soon. I was lazy about looking around though and I never really found anything. It's very poor timing with a baby on the way but I suppose I will have to find something quickly in November for documenting the birth. Any suggestions for an inexpensive, easy to use, nice quality point and shoot would be welcome.

We have busy days ahead, cleaning and organizing our house. We lost two weeks of settling in because of Seb's trip to France but I feel strongly that everything happens for a reason so I will not dwell on it and regret the time lost. I'm just going to get down to it and throw myself into setting up our house and the baby room. I have all the fabric for the baby room and I can't wait to decorate it with all the details I have in mind. I'm painting all the furniture black which has everyone gasping saying "a black baby room!?" but I think it's going to look really nice and very elegant. The painting may take some time but it will be done before her first birthday (I hope).

Seb is hot to buy a car but I told him "no" which got him all grumpy. "Your stupid astrology crap drives me crazy!" I reminded him that he signed his contract for Mexico last year in November even though I told him to wait ten days for better timing. Now that we're here he can't understand why the contract has been such a mess--after all it's all there in black and white and yet they say they won't honor it. I just shrug my shoulders and sighed "if you would have just waited..." This makes him even angrier. He thinks all this stuff is silly nonsense.

I'm going to try and blog as much as possible this week. I know once we get in the house it will take a while to get internet hooked up. A lot of Mexicans spend time in internet cafes and I've heard that they're inexpensive but I don't see myself getting out and doing this with Little S. Hopefully we'll get hooked up quickly.

I have a Canon Powershot too and I love using it, and find it easy to download.
Good luck with all the paperwork and getting your furniture - it can be a very frustrating process and sometimes hard to get a straight answer. Our boxes were stuck in Guadalajara for a few weeks while we sorted out paperwork - I found it was necessary to keep calling or emailing them - when they say they will call you back it seems to mean they are expecting you to call them. (This seems to apply to a lot of services in Mexico!) It will be so nice once you're out of the hotel and in your own house, then you can really start making it feel like home.

My brother recommended the same camera and I liked his a lot--very compact. For now mine seems to be working a little better. I am just hoping it holds out a little longer.

Guera I don't know how it worked for you but the company is handling the processing of the paperwork for us. It could be good or bad. They do know better than we do how to speak to the customs officials.
