First day of school

It was an emotional day yesterday because a certain Little S started school. He was pretty scared and he cried for quite a while so the directress called and said maybe we should cut his first day a little short. Today we are doing the same, giving him time to adjust to a new lifestyle--new friends, new environment and a new language.

I was overwhelmed with emotion but it´s very tricky because as the parent you can´t show how worried and scared you are, gulp. After he went inside I cried for a full ten minutes. It´s a huge event in a mother´s life sending her children out into the world for the first time. When it´s a world where you don´t speak the language it´s even harder.

The private schools in Mexico are excellent and we had a hard time deciding on which one we would put him in. Most were hardcore Catholic and we were a little turned off by a school that was too religious at such a young age. Later if he wants that it´s fine but at age three I wasn´t sure if we should saturate him with this message.

Finally we decided on a Montesorri school. It sounds really interesting and I´m pretty sure knowing my little guy that Montessori education suits him well. He will learn by touching, feeling and absorbing his environment--perfect for such an emotional little guy.

Oh wow. The first day of school is huge, Chris. He'll adjust quickly (and so will you). I think Montessori was a good call. E's new school isn't Montessori per se, but the teacher incorporates many of the principles. We are loving it.

Montessori schools are wonderful, especially as a first school experience. I hope he enjoys it once he has adjusted. Hang in there a little longer!

Em it´s a little tough but the idea that he´s got all the liberty that the montessori education offers kids helps me feel at ease.

Jennifer I bet you have lots of Montessori schools in Italy!
