I love how in Mexico you can buy avacados by the kilo and not by the piece. In Europe one avacado costs about 1,20 (80 centimes on a good day). In Mexico it´s about three US dollars a kilo (that´s 2.2 pounds for the metric handicapped among you).
Needless to say we make guacamole every other day!

i guess we are lucky for Europe, our local grocery store (Champion) usually has them for about 70 cents a piece (sometimes less), i've never understood why they are so much cheaper here then they were in California!

Where do most the avacados come from in Europe anyway?
I just had some pretty terrible avocados. Something told me my neighborhood vendors weren't too vigilant about freshness so I got them from two places, just in case. One vendor sold me hollow shells full of rotten gook and the other sold me rock hard tasteless fruit. I have a sneaking suspicion that I have never tasted the essence of an avocado the way you're able to do now, Chris. Enjoy! Are you cooking Mexican, and do you have books in English to cook from?
Lucy I´m going to be ordering some Rick Bayless books. You gave me the great idea to get the housekeeper to help me learn to cook the real thing (which is why I want someone a little older to help out in the house--she´ll be a seasoned pro at all the dishes).
The avocados here are always very ripe and just ready to eat. I´m not sure how they can sell them every day in that perfect condition. They must replace the stock daily!

Oh man, I love guacamole! I don't blame you for having it every day. Heck, I'd probably have it at every meal if it were me!
I would love to eat fresh guacamole every other day! I haven't seen a good looking avocado in months let alone a kilo of them.
