Little S drew this airplane today on a card he was making for a friend. It was the first time he drew something representing something. I was very proud of him.
The airplane is from what he calls "The Milk Story" which is of course Maurice Sendak's book, In The Night Kitchen. He is so enchanted by this story. We don´t own the book yet but we watch the little short film made for it so often that he knows it by heart. I think it has a definite maternal theme and I´m not so sure if he isn't finding solace in the storyline.* Besides who can resist it. It's so full of imagination, adventure and charm.
When he drew this plane he was very serious and he said "gonna fly to da milk mom....gonna fly!"
*you can find the video on You Tube or the like.

You've been posting every day and I haven't been keeping up! Good posts, too.
Jack and I will have to watch The Night Kitchen when we get a chance. If you have any other good YouTube suggestions, please publish them!!
Re the plastic, I hear you. We are big fans of Legos though. We get the big ones and play with them every single day. I don't know what we'd do without them. I guess we could get the wooden blocks, but there is something about Legos that is so magical. At least to Jack and me. As for the gifts, don't get me started. We probably don't have near as many toys as you do but it always seems like people are giving us plastic toys that need batteries and make noise. No! Please! Worse Gift Ever! Our friends must hate me.
Giving away a lot of stuff is such a good idea and the move is the perfect time to do it.
Your post on the incident at the park was very freaky. That would have been scary. Maybe that's another reason why you had trouble finding other expat moms to join you?
We watch many things on You Tube especially book related stories. Anything by Maurice Sendak has probably been animated because he used to have an animated series on television depicting his books. Also pretty much any famous book Like Harold and the Purple Crayon etc. Seann loves that one too! And then Sesame Street counting videos which I love too. We sped about thirty minutes a day watching You tUbe stuff like this. My personal videos are under missingenuity on You Tube and you (or anyone else) can link to my favourites there.
We are big fans of Legos too. Seb and I make entire villages out of the duplo blocks. Like I said we would hae a hard time getting rid of that and Playmobil which his Aunt V always gets for him. I doubt we´ll buy any more of either one though. There are too many good alternatives in wood. I love the chateau and roman village sets in wood (I linked them in the post below) He always, always, always wants to play with these stupid little wood blocks I bought for Charlotte. I know he´s intrigued by the simplicity of the wood.
That's a great picture,Little S obviously inherited his mother's creative streak :)
