Bugs

Our last few weeks in Mexico are a little surreal and I want to document this place and this moment, --sort of tuck it into a pocket like a forgotten note to open when I least expect it and have a memory flood my mind weaving together the forgotten fabric of this time and this place. I think my photographs will help me do this.

I took this photograph by Little S´s school, one of my favorite areas in slp* because of its beautiful views of the mountains and the valley and because of the colorful, old style Mexican houses everywhere. A VW often lands in front of my lens in Mexico because even if they are the cliche´of Mexican culture they are definitely here there and everywhere you look. Little S will often shout at a passing car "Herbie! Fly Herbie, go!" because of his favorite film, and he will stare out at a parked one fixated on all the details of this unique little car with so much personality explaining to me what it can do, --in his little mind's eye of course.

I desperately wanted to buy a bug when we came here but they are silly, dangerous cars that are probably best left admired. Still it would be fun to own one just to tinker with and drive to the market or on a Sunday outing. The romantic in me could own several cars like this. I doubt a bug coincides very well with our dream to return to the Alpes though. Chugging up mountain roads would be a little challenging.

Okay, so that's my little project. It's bugs on the windshield of my blog for a week or so!

*slp is what the locals call the town we live in, short for "S*n L*is P*t*si," It's in the central part of the country and is a fairly large town of about a million people. It's growing rapidly each year because of the industry exploding everywhere--all the major auto companies have plants here now or will in the next five years.

I love this shot! Would you mind if I downloaded it and had it printed to hang on my wall? It would look so nice in my bedroom with another, completely different picture I took in my neighborhood. Would you be interested in a photo swap? I'll send you mine if you send me yours...

I'll even print your name on the mat inside the frame to give you full credit!

Emily - Yes we´re coming back to France and eventually home to Hte. Savoie (yes, there is a loose plan, yay!) but maybe not for a few years. Our 2nd home is in Thonon so we'll be back and forth a lot while we're living away finishing our house and visiting those mountains we miss so much. The guy who is renting our house has agreed to let us have one of our bedrooms for whenever we like. He's rarely in the house so that will be nice. He's turned out to be okay in fact even if I was worried in the beginning.

Jennifer wow I'd be honored! I'd love to have one of your photos too. That's a great idea to do a photo swap. I'm going to choose one off your blog. What size do you want this one?
