Groovy offerings

To celebrate solstice yesterday we bleached the poop stains out of one of Charlotte's diapers!! What? You mean don't know about this ancient method of paying homage to the sun god?

Okay ha no, just kidding. It's just that I have wanted to post this for a long time and I will forget once we move. Did you know that the sun works wonders for bleaching out stains.? Whenever the cloth diapers come out of the machine with a little poo memory attached I toss them out onto the grass and in two hours they're white and stain free. It always impresses me how efficient mother nature is so yes I guess it is sort of paying homage, but my offering isn't so wonderful.

You can use this for any stain really. And yes, this may be a problem for those in less sunny locales but at least try it in the summer!

The sun has finally come out for us, and yes, I use it all the time! I always think of this as one of those things that our ancestors must have known, and we have to rediscover.

Yay, all hail the Goddess of poop removal! ;)

We never got stains in our cloth nappies from Jaya (crazy huh, she didn't stain a single nappy!) but oh my god the stains from Jove! I was told by a friend to put them out in the sun but was scared to as predictably I had dyed all our nappies bright colours and I didn't want them to fade. The newborn stains were so bad though I had to do it and was amazed that the poop stains were gone but the dyed colour stayed as strong as ever! Apparantly it takes out natural stains only.

Hey don't worry about sunny climes, if it works for me in England then it'll work for anoyone!

Here's the big sister to that one - you rub a little neutral handsoap on the stain when garment is wet, and THEN put it out in the sun... when it dries, you wash out the soap and the stain will be TOTALLY COMPLETELY gone... love that trick... (guess you can use this trick if the sun doesn't finish the job all by itself).

Hooray for sun! We line dry all our diapers and though we have some stains we haven't been able to fully get rid of, most of the diapers look as good as new after 2 years. Now I wouldn't mind a little rain...

I have to tell you what happened as we waited for the Sun Gods to bleach two little shirts that belonged to the baby. I laid them out in the sun yesterday, certain that the stains would be gone and my little one could be wearing her clothes again. I checked on the onesies around lunch time and the sun had moved so I went outside and turned them back into direct sunlight. About mid afternoon my 3 year old was looking out the window and started to squeal with delight, Moma look, Moma look! The neighbors dog had decided to lift his leg and pee on my almost stain free clothes! So I am back to square one. My husband, after the fact, suggested I hang them on the clothes lines next time but I thought I looked very domestic laying them in the grass!!!
