We have a well (source) under our house which is our only source of water for the house. Water gets sent up to the second floor by an electric pump. It's great because we don't have a water bill to pay but of course we have to be careful and we have to drink and cook with bottled water. It's like being back in Mexico again, especially because the pump stopped one day during a power blip and we had no water for about four days until we figured it out. We had to haul icy tadpole water up from the creek. At least in Mexico we had the fancy swimming pool for that!
We're going to try to keep the source water for flushing toilets and possibly for baths, but I think we'll be connected to the city by next year.
I love this old cupboard salvaged from the attic. I was using the armoire for a garde a manger (larder) You remember the one that was promised to the neighbor. I was using it right up until the day she came for it. Now this is my garde a manger. I actually like this cupboard a lot but at first I was angry because I had to clean it and it was yet another dirtydustygrodycrudfilledmess that I had to deal with. It was filled with strange things like these Christmas tree candles and their holders that you would clip on the tree back when people bravely put real candles on real trees (yikes) and it also had those linen sheets I talked about in another post.
My kitchen has these old light switches and plugs on the wall. We like them and we'd love to keep them but you really have to update everything so they'll be coming out. There is a retro version of these light switches that are all the rage now in French renovation. Ironically we may install them in the living room and kitchen and ironically they cost a small fortune.
