Dining room spruce up

Over the weekend we bought some carpeting for our living/dining room so it would help us stay a little more sane. This is what is commonly known in renovation as a quick-fix. We have no intention of keeping it more than a year but for now it buys us some time on a project that was very high on the priority list, floors.

For more details you can go over to my Flickr pages and read a little more here.

We also got a peek at the blueprints from the estate agent who is holding them hostage until we close on the house. The house was built in August of 1913 and we got to see how they had the rooms laid out in the original plans. The two rooms which we use today as living/dining room were originally two bedrooms with a wall that has since been knocked out. Then there was a dining room and a kitchen on the opposite side of the hall. The kitchen is still where it has always been. The thought of not having a living room seemed odd to me but then I remembered that people used to spend their time relaxing in the dining room and there was no need for a living room. The toilet was non-existent and the upstairs was too. It was simply unfinished attic space. The basement was clearly divided into four parts--wine cellar, food storage, laundry room (where there is still a source of water under the house!--their own private lavoir and our current water source) and then the fourth room's purpose was written illegibly so I'm not sure what they used it for. The exterior of the house looks exactly the same save for a few additions like the terrace we have off the side. That was added later.

I'm going to organize my house photos much better over the next few weeks so that it's easier to tour the house via Flickr. I also have a really interesting photo project in mind to do over thirty days that I want to get started on.
