Museum day

Yesterday I jumped on the 'burb train with my neighbor Myla and we headed out to the Decorative Arts Museum near the Louvre on Rue Rivoli. There was an exhibit for the kids called Quand Je Serai Grand(e)...and it featured classic toys representing what kids wanted to be. It's a really fun exhibit and the kids loved it.

Afterwards we wandered through the Jean DeBuffet exhibit which is well placed after the kid's exhibit because of his non-art philosophy or whatever he called it. His art is very primitive and childlike. I got some ideas for doing an atelier project or two of my own. Something with scrunching plastic. I'll post about it later.

Then after a short lunch break we went back to see the Jasper Morrison Take A Seat exhibit. The kids loved this because in part of the exhibit you can sit in all the chairs!

The rest of this museum is really amazing. There's a whole section devoted to post war modern chairs and each floor will take you into another decade. I'm such a chair nerd I kept telling Myla "hey they sell that chair in Ikea!" Since it was her job to actually go buy these chairs all over Paris for clients there was a huge learning gap that she was very patient about with me. I think for her it was like going to the chair museum with Lenny from Of Mice and Men.

I bought a great book called 1000 Chairs which hopefully will help me become less of a chair nerd. In fact I was really excited to see that our dining room chairs we bought in Mexico are actually in the book! They're knockoffs of an Arne Jacobsen series 7 chair (see how smart I sound). I love those chairs but can't seem to find them anywhere. Like how do you lose four chairs tell me? I think the movers took them apart and cut the wood into little pieces that we're supposed to glue back together or something.

Umm, I guess I'll have to go look for some more in Ikea.

Just go look for some more in Ikea. Must be nice you can replace everything so easy. Some of us have to work for things.

I would love to see those exhibits. There is a small chance that we'll be coming to Paris for our spring break, if I do, I'll let you know :)

I was at the Louvre on Wednesday night. It was absolute madness and I forgot how brash those tourist places are... ;-)

Am always skeery about taking the kids into Paris. Probably because I'm not keen on coming into Paris when I don't have to.
