What I didn't wish for was the replacement, THIS ugly thing dominating my kitchen, duct tape and all. We're stuck with it until the kitchen renovations start in the Fall and we can move it all downstairs to the future laundry room.
By the way if you looked at this photo, scratched your head and said "that's a kitchen?" you aren't alone.
Last night I had a dream that we were on a beautiful tropical vacation. There were only a few hours left and for some reason we had to steam all the rest of the wallpaper off the hotel bathroom walls before we caught the plane home. We also had to iron all our clothes before repacking all of our suitcases and I could see outside, the blue skies, and the beach that we never got to see because we'd been renovating our hotel room the whole vacation.
Dreams are kooky but what felt real was that I could feel that sense of missing out on everything.
There are only two options. Option one is just Let it Go and not care whether it all gets done, --steamed wallpaper, electricity, plumbing, all of it. And the there's option two which is to work harder and get it done faster. I don't think I can live with Mr. Water Heater for really a very long time (as Little S would say), so I think the only option is to work harder and get it done faster somehow, some way.
That tropical vacation looked really inviting.

is a tankless on demand heater a possibility for you?
we have had pretty good experience (and very low bills) with the one in our apartment.
This one is just a loaner until we get the renovations started. Somehow when they talked to us about it I imagined it as much smaller. This sucker is HUGE! It could heat the beach resort in my dream. I'm definitely unplugging it at night.
You poor sweet thing. That dream sequence was depressing. It certainly illustrated what it must feel like to be so deep in renovations. But it will look so good when you are done! Think of that. And somehow you will remember it as being a lot more fun than it actually was.
I'm actually warming up to it :/ It's so wonderful having hot water again that I've learned to embrace his weirdness duct tape and all. We've named him Dan because he's so present in our lives that I felt like he deserved a name. He's as large as a person!
Your kitchen and all its space capsules... Dude, I'd still totally trade your house for mine, any day!
oh, and my word verification is weedit. Wonder if that's some kind of message.
When are you trekking out to the country? School's out soon.
yeah, I second the on-demand solution and yes they do have them in France.
we'll definitely look in to getting one. thanks for the info!
doc - I'd love to weedit, believe me.
and yes we'll be paying visits sometime this summer :)
