Eighteen months old (soon)

She's going to be 18 months old next week but I know I'll forget to write about it because I always do, so I'm writing about it now. She isn't walking yet, but close enough to say that it will probably happen in the next few weeks. Just this weekend she took two or three steps by herself. I don't know why my kids walk late. It doesn't bother me really but it does seem to bother a lot of people. I get asked constantly "when is she going to walk?" and mother-in-law is really worried giving us specialists names. I'm sure it's just her fear of falling. She isn't much of a climber or risk taker (umm that'd be Charlotte).

She...

has nappy hair in the back and a perpetual chocolate stain on her face. Little Miss Sunshine competition is not going to happen.

fell out of her highchair two times this month flat on her head. Yes I'm one of those moms who forgets the seatbelt. twice.

has a terrible sweet tooth and eats like a sumo. Rule of the house is not to leave open packages of food in front of her because if you do they'll be emptied.

wears a size 3 in her dresses because otherwise they're too tight. I think little girl dresses are made small though. At least that's what I tell myself. and her.

is very chatty and says papa, dodo, cat, shoes, chauss-shoes (a classic frenglish word--S said the same thing) and repeats everything we say like a little parrot.

is STILL breastfeeding three times a day or more. I refuse to do it in public because of the comments and the shocked looks--it makes me really uncomfortable lately, and so if I go to someones house we end up with screaming episodes and my shirt becomes a mini blind. So it's not like I can be casual and hide the fact that I'm still breastfeeding but hoisting a near two year old into feeding position has started to make me feel like that painting of Frida Kahlo with her wet nurse. It just feels more natural to do it at home when no one's watching.

has terrible morning breath (and she's a baby!) which proves she's mine.

is a little angel in every sense of the word

Joyeux moisiversaire! She looks so sweet! with her curly blond hair. I felt just lke you with my first born still breastfed while becoming a toddler. Thanks for the link to the Frida Kahlo's painting, I really like this painter.

She is beautiful! You are so good about writing about her. James will be six months soon and I haven't written about him (or posted pictures) in ages.

I stopped bfing in public after one for the same reason. I couldn't take the comments and stares. It felt normal to me to do it but I am still somewhat unnerved when I see an older child nursing and I think that's why I was so self-conscious about doing it in front of other people.

Lots of kids walk after one year. Your in-laws seem to like their grandchildren standardized. Too bad that doesn't work in real life.

She is such a sweetheart! Her name fits her so well.

Happy 18 months to you both!

Her hair grew so fast lately! She really looks like a toddler rather than a baby now. I'm sure she'll be toddling soon. Both mine were early walkers like me (worst luck, I used to be so jealous of my friends whose babies stayed put ;)) but my brother didn't walk or talk till he was two! They all do it in their own time.

I too stopped breastfeeding Jovey in public around age 2... but not because of nasty looks, he just tended to be too preoccupied in public to ask! Luckily folks round here are pretty accepting of breastfeeding an older baby.

Thanks Jemma ! Nah, we don't ever get nasty looks or comments but most moms will make comments like "isn't she just suckling? I mean how could you still have milk?..." I don't even feel like explaining it in the middle of conversation so I usually don't feed her in front of others unless the pitch level gets too intense. I'd be a bad rep for The LLL! I have one bf mom friend who thinks it's awesome that Charlotte still feeds so I will feed in front of her no problem. I guess feel less like martyr mommy with her.

Chris - she is sooooo adorable! What a doll! She would be a perfect match for Brody! :O) When I read your description I laughed because you can't open anything infront of Brody either without giving him some and he is also in a size 3 at 19 1/2 months old. He wears some size 4 Pj's. But, I think Brody is a risk taker - that is one difference. :O)

How sweet. I had to laugh when I read this because Julien seems to be eating nonstop as well. If we leave anything out he will find it and it will be gone!

Awww, how sweeet! We heard "Chauss-socks" around here :)

I understand the feeding in public thing....I was really self-conscious about it in CH so rarely did it (she was 18 months then). In the US, I did get comments or looks, but for some reason I cared less.
She's a real cutie!

She's gorgeous, and it sounds like she's got a great personality too.

I just stopped breastfeeding a few weeks ago (my daughter is the same age), and I miss it terribly. If I hadn't had to stop to give her a chance at a sibling, I would have happily breastfeed her until she was in college, I think.
