The importance of journaling

In this video, assemblage artist Janice Lowry talks about her art and particularly her journals. What an amazing collection! She's been journaling since she was eleven years old and now her archives are in the Smithsonian's collection. I like what she says here. It's sort of what I talked about in my last post, personalising your journal and why it's important to make it your own. And she talks about why it's important to even keep a journal and how it leaves a footprint and a mark of who you are.

"The reason I started the diaries was because I didn't really feel like I existed. So the diaries and the journals were really evidence of my experiences and responses to the world."

I didn't know that much about her but she died last week, which is probably why this video popped up. It's interesting that her work really is living on after her just like she says in the video.
