So we're going in a couple of weeks but I'll have to take Little S out of school to go stay with the in-laws and they weren't thrilled about the last minute change of plans, (which I understand). We tried to plan this all around school vacations so that's the most frustrating part of not being able to go now and his teacher probably won't be happy about him missing school since he's so far behind. I'm dreading telling her especially since I have to take him out again in May for our US trip. Oh well, life is different for us what can I say.
So next week, hmmm. No big plans because I thought I'd be gone. My car should arrive at the dealership next Friday but that doesn't mean I'll be able to get it right away. I'll be stranded in the house doing lots of little diy projects and finishing up my cv. It went from being a fun and exciting travel week to a boring utilitarian week full of obligations. Poo.
We finally had to open the crates for our artwork since the basement flooding was getting me worried. The question is what's worse dust or humidity? I started getting worried that they might get moldy and to be honest I was really eager to see everything again because I'd pretty much forgotten what was in there. I bought three painting while I was in Mexico, you know kind of considered them my going away presents (along with my dishes and pottery) and I no sooner bought them then I had to have them packed. I basically chose this one the last week, asked Seb to pick it up, left for our flight to Florida and then the movers packed it the following week when I wasn't there. Two years later I finally get to see it again. It's as tall as me and I love it but there aren't a whole lot of places to hang it except the hallway. It had to be hung right away so the kids don't run into it with their toys or Seb doesn't accidentally drill though it (which I could definitely see happening!)
My other paintings are also modern but more Mexican. I really wish I'd bought a few more. I definitely would have if we'd stayed longer.

Sorry about your trip getting cancelled! That's disappointing.
And what is the deal with the secretary? Jealous, anyone?
Too bad about your trip! What a let down. Oh well, it will be just as exciting in a few weeks I guess.
I like the painting though!!
Pretty painting! I spent a few years in China & know a few tricks. If you could spend one day in HK on the way in you can get a visa for the mainland there in a couple of hours, if the rules haven't changed. Call a travel agent in Hong Kong and ask about it, or maybe a hotel, they work with the agents and they're delivered to your hotel, they do this all the time.
Was the secretary formally reprimanded? That really stinks.
Linda
J - I think she's mad because no one will tell her why I'm going. I'm not sure if she sabotaged my visa or not.
Lucy thanks. I think we'll just wait it out and go in a few weeks. I'd love to go to Hong Kong though!
Linda you hit on my (and everyone else in France I bet) pet peeve, which is that crappy French employees are never worried about making mistakes because they can't be fired. If they have a CDI, they have a contract which basically makes them un-fireable. Seb books his own tickets from now on because she always books him on cheap airlines with multi stop destinations and five and six hour layovers because she's too lazy to be bothered.
Sorry to hear about the postponement. That sucks!
Joe also used to have to book his own travel when he was at the French office. If not, they would book him on the cheap flights that left super-early in the morning and then had 6 hour layovers. Yuck! I had been under the impression that none of them had really traveled much.
Love the painting!
this morning in my newspaper, please check it:

TAke care of you all!

Thanks Yveline that's really scary that there's a website dedicated to theives! I don't share location information on my blog and I try to stay pretty generic about trips and whatnot. I don't usually talk about a trip until after I get back for example but I might casually say I'm going in the month of March or in a few weeks somewhere. I have a house that all my neighbors pass by three or four times a day.
I always get nervous when I have anyone in the house that I don't know. When the cable guy came to hook it up, I have 3 of my male friends over giving him the evil eye and following him around.
A little postponement ain't bad. Soon you will be seeing red! Good luck.
