Thrifty finds

I promised a post about Exciting Thrift Finds! did I not?

Okay so I'm looking for some lamps for my house because it seems we've had a lamp run and all the lamps in our house have recently died tragic deaths, fallen off of ladders and been dismanteled by curious toddlers. Did I find any lamps last week though? No of course not because that's what I was LOOKING for (you'll never find the thing you go for--thrifting rule number one), but I did find lots of other fun things, mostly pottery which is no big surprise, and a totally awesome breakfast table which I love, love love.

Me! okay dork alert here's my new favorite necklace find--love that it weighs about nine tons--two euros

my totally awesome breakfast table in pine or ash, not sure--hard to get back far enough to take a good photo of its shape but it's sort of surfboard shaped, l o v e r l y but I'll have to keep it covered in plastic 99 percent of the time, *sigh* fifty euros

is it a stein? is it a pitcher? it's a steiny-pitcher (it's marked Germany on the bottom)

oversized coffee cups for petit déj--marked on the bottom from Sarreguermines--why can't I find two more!!?

A few more of my finds are on my Flickr stream. And yes these were found over three visits so I'm not THAT much of an addict, (well three visits in ten days but remember I am usually stranded at home so I have to condense my shopping).

Do you go thrifting? Where do you go? What do you usually look for?

I only go thrifting when I need something. I'm not a shop-for-fun kind of person. What do I need now? Area rugs for the basement since we pulled the carpet up after it flooded. Ugh.

I love that table. So sad that you will have to keep it covered. That is an amazing price though.

Other than a beautiful antiques market we visited last year (once) without buying anything, I never go thrifting. I am always on a very tight budget and I can't stand clutter. I have no vases or pottery or cute little tea cups and nothing extra on display around my house that does not serve a purpose. This is mainly because I am very utilitarian that way and also because cannot imagine what something is going to look like in my house and I am so CHEAP that I am unwilling to risk it. Also, the clutter thing. I don't want extra stuff.

But I admire other people's talent. My house is very, very boring. And filled with generic IKEA furniture.

Paulita - Ikea has some great rugs, well depending on your tastes but I have a few in my fave files that are nice.

Jennifer - Yes I have a clutter problem but I blame it on my lack of closets. I have zero closets. Your house always looks so clean! Now I know your secret :)

HAHAHA! If my house looks clean it's probably because I only take pictures the day after the cleaning lady came. She is my biggest luxury, and I love her dearly. Part of the reason I continue working is so I don't have to clean the house.

We have no built-in closets either, other than the make-shift laundry room (which is a bathroom we only use as a laundry room) where everything that does not have a home goes.

We have a few giant wardrobes though. (Incidentally, none from IKEA, yay us!)

This spring it is my goal to get some rugs and put something up on the walls to make the place homier.
