what bored little girls do; play dress up in French navy uniformsWe've just returned from four days in Normandy to visit the in laws. They haven't seen Baby S since May for the baptism so they were of course really surprised at how much he'd grown. He on the other hand was impressed by how much they paid attention to him. Mom and dad are absolutely no match for the cooing and coddling of the grandparents.
at the table...again

Other than that it was a peachy weekend. Highlights (and there were a few) included going into town. Seb and I had great time browsing shops. The shopping is much better than our town. We also went out to dinner alone which was pretty freaky since we've never left baby S before. We fumbled our way through a three course meal and talked like adults, very strange indeed. Afterwards we met my sister-in-law and her husband in a bar for a beer. A VERY LOUD bar where I had no idea what was being said for two hours, because what no one will tell you about learning a second langauge is that you may become like a native with the language but you'll never be able to read lips or eavesdrop on conversations. This is terrible because I love to listen in other people's conversations at restaurants and in the movies.
One other fun thing we did was visit Madame G the fortune teller. She's the one who told Seb many years ago that he'd meet a dark haired foreigner in a lakeside town and marry her. I think he thought she was a kook, after all he was living in Normandy and he was in a... a-hem relationship of sorts. His shock of shocks was two weeks later when he found himself at a sudden job interview in Annecy. That evening after a very promising interview he was sitting across from a lovely dark-haired american woman in a restaurant eating his "spaghetti special." When a clumsy waitress spilled a pitcher of water on us we started talking and of course the rest is history. After that he has continued visiting Madame G every so often. Whenever we're in the north of France and at a crossroad in our lives we try to go and see her. We never have to say a word, she always says exactly what's what right away. And so I won't go into what she said this time, but I will say that she said some very eerie things. She hasn't seen me in three years and she just turned to me and said with a really kind face, "don't worry, you'll have another baby and it will be fine..."

Oh wow! She sounds like she knows waht she is talking about. Madame G, that is, not the mother in law! How could she think to cut those cute blonde baby curls and give him chocolate...Oi vay!! What is it with mother in laws that rub us the wrong way?
My own mother as well as my mother in law, who is really cool and charming by the way, used to have some strange remarks about the way I deal with my sons. One day I got really angry and I told them that if they think I'm unable to raise my kids they should try to adopt them.MY KIDS AND I DO WHAT I FEEL IT SHOULD BE DONE. That calmed them down, believe me.
Take care of you and don't be in a hurry for a second one. It's terribly hard to have two little guys when you have no grandmother to help.
Special kisses for your little guy and hi to Seb.
