When it rains...well the roof leaks actually

It's not raining. It probably will though.

The in laws are finally gone. They spent their last weekend in the area here with us visiting Baby S, taking lots of walks and eating the standard three meals a day slopped up by yours truly. All that packed into three action-filled days with me trailing behind them, exhausted.

I've already mentioned I have lazy genes. Superwoman I am not, nor do I strive to be. Give me a good read. Give me an Indian Tonic. But above all give me a break.

At the end of the visit we settled accounts for the vacation apartment in Les Gets. What a bargain to only pay for half of the rent. And to think I got to go on vacation 45 minutes from my house for such a price! Why it boggles the mind.

Okay I'll stop being sarcastic because I seem ungrateful for all the free baguettes...

and the stale, day old coffee saved in a jar by the sink.

In other news my sister is here for one week of vacation. She has her new boyfriend with her. I've dubbed him "The Bulldozer" for many reasons, subtlety not being one of them. He's got the "let's see Eastern France in 8 days syndrome" I doubt I'll see my exhausted sister for more than 10 minutes. Did I mention he snores?

And finally the under-the-table mafia guys have called about starting our roof. They'll be starting this weekend in fact. Not much warning but we don't really have much choice. The price is almost too good to be true.

The Bulldozer is going to have some competition. Roof guys are very noisy critters.

Since you are now the queen of endless train rides from hell with small child attached, feel free to come on up here and have a break--the coffee's fresh and the rent, well, you can pay half if you want ;)

Leave the snoring bulldozer and lafia nail slingers at home though--got enough of that here

Thanks Doc. Be careful I may just take you up on that one day.

Day old coffee? Wouldn't want to throw that out! After all it's about 10 centimes a litre...*gasp*

Oh my God. The saved coffee reminded me of my in-laws, who would save the coffee. And then next time they made coffee, they'd make a whole pot (even if they only wanted a cup each after lunch). And then the cold coffee would be reheated the next morning. It used to drive me nuts. Coffee lag. JUST MAKE A FRESH POT! THE WAR IS OVER!

There is nothing grosser than stale coffee, reheated. Well, coffee from the red packages, fresh or not, is comepletely rank.

"Am I a coffee snob?" she wondered as she sipped her freshly ground, freshly made brew? ;-)

I wouldn't be sounding all too grateful either on that bill..

Hmm - so I guess you don't know which is worse yet, the bulldoser or the roofers...

Yeah, what ever you do, don't waste 10 cents on coffee. Times of war weren't that long ago. Exactly my in-laws. Just weird.

Just be careful with the roofers. We have heard lots of stories here in the Parisian area about people who promise to do the work for a lower price and then take off with your money. Don't pay them in advance. Besides, if they did it, there is not anyone to investigate it. THey don't enforce these scandals like they should.

I hope you do get your much deserved break. After the time you had with your in-laws, and the roofers coming this weekend, it sounds like you are going to need it!

At least you get baguettes, and half the vacation rental paid for...and stale coffee is better than no coffee?? Or is it? Oh no I have opened the can of worms!!! I have to stop before I start saying ...Are all French in laws like this? Maybe it is in the coffee????

All my in-laws rewarm their coffee...and I don't drink it, so Fab only makes a pot every three days or so, and then just warms it up on the stove every morning. Always thought that was kinda yucky...
