The toddler birthday party

Well first of all let me say that I put up the third and final video in my last post so what are you waiting for. Go and see my dining room theatricals as I continue this neverending cookbook odyssey of mine.

Okay well, it was in that very same dining room that we celebrated Little S's second birthday on Sunday with a few local friends. I have to admit right off that it's very hard having no family around us when we have events like this. I really wanted him to have a crowd of cousins and grandparents and good friends but the truth is we are a little isolated from family and close friends. The people who came over were friends to be sure, but ones we've met in the last two years or so. All of our close friends are scattered (you know who you are) and our family is really far. I guess we've brought this upon ourselves though so I can't go on and on about it.

Otherwise it was fun and I loved the baking and prepping. We decorated with tons of balloons, a birthday banner with streamers and we played lots of zydeco music because you know it's practically impossible to be in a non-party mood with zydeco music rocking the house.

This was a gouter so I just made sweets: a Mississippi Mud Cake, a Tarte Tatin with fresh cream, a double decker and very pretty Marble Cake complete with Nutella & m&m's. We call it the Milly cake for obvious reasons. And finally I made the yummy Tropical Rum Trifle that seems to be very popular with the crowds every time I make it. We had lots of leftovers that I shipped home with the guests because sadly I am on my low sugar/sugar free diet starting tomorrow! I thought it best to taper off slowly and rid myself of any sinful temptations. We're also weaning a very strung out Little S off the sugar wagon too so all those lovely cakes are now in my neighbor's fridges.

Kids parties are fun to plan. I have lots of idea for the next one and even Seb said "next year maybe we'll do a theme like cowboys or something!" which is funny because he told me at the start that "French people don't really celebrate birthdays like Americans." You know like it's a gaudy and trashy. Oh yeah, well we'll just see about that. Next trip home it's Walmart Party Aisle Time and we're stocking up big time honey!

Just reading that made my mouth water! Lately, I have really been craving chocolate.

No offense of anything, but why the heck are you going on a diet? You don't look like you need to be on one!

It's a health diet. Just a few lifestyle changes for a good cause.

You know they say when you're pregnant with at girl you crave sweets :) When I was pregnants with Little S it was true I craved salty foods and everyone kept saying "it's a boy!". I ate raw lemons with salt on them nonstop. Isn't that funny.

Well, good luck with the diet then. I try and eat healthy for the most part, but I tend to give into my cravings....especially nowadays!

I've heard that old wives tale too. Maybe there is actally some truth to that!
