AEDM day 4

I'm a closet manga fan and I'm starting to get hooked on manga drawing books. Seb teases me about this endlessly. He thinks it's for 12 year old boys and rolls his eyes when he sees me with them.

These are so fun to create even if I keep getting near misses with getting things right. This one today really bugged me for many reasons, mainly the eyes which were seriously crooked and oversized, scary! Anyway this month is just about sharing my stuff good and bad so even if I hate the drawing it's a banana peel like Danny Gregory says. You just toss it away and savor the fruity moment the drawing gave you that day.

You got the hair sooooo perfect!!!! Great wind effect, as in the original!!! Also, I think you got the eyes really good too! Don't you find that when you finish, even if you don't like the whole, there are some parts that you REALLY REALLY like??? That's what I love about finishing a project - realizing suddenly that there are parts that are really and truly good! (or at least that I really really like!) Sooner or later, I'll produce something that I find TOTALLY really really good!

Thanks, I love doing manga hair. Yes I agree except that I never like ANY of my drawings and I'm extremely critical of myself. I try to put that (nagging) internal voice away when I draw so I can actually relax and enjoy myself. I let it stop me drawing and painting when I was in university and I think that was a big mistake because I wound up switching my major my last year and I had a lot of regret about it. I now know that voice is really stupid and means nothing but it does still get to me when I look at the finished drawing and say "it's terrible and it could be so much better" blah blah blah. You know what though it doesn't matter. You just have to keep drawing and ignore all the voices internal and external.

Ah, so there's the difference! You actually studied art and I never did. I'm still in the throes of this new passionate love-affair! You, however, know a lot more, and were actually graded for your work, which of course brought about to some degree your self-critical attitude. Good to see that you're not defeated and that you intend to keep up your drawing, despite your own misgivings!!!
